Meet Lynette, one of our most inspiring students. Discover how she’s staying creatively fulfilled and joyfully learning in her 90s — and loving every minute of it!
At 92 years old, Lynette Warren is living proof that creativity doesn’t retire.
“Yes, I am 92, a bit creaky and wobbly and shaky, but I am delighted to say, I still have my ‘marbles’. I also still have an old-fashioned Presbyterian work ethic, so I need to be, or need to think I always am, doing something constructive with my time.”
“I have lived in Perth, Western Australia, all my life, but have had the good fortune to have travelled the world extensively. I am also lucky enough to have a family home in the Karri forests near Denmark, in the southwest of Australia. The natural beauty of the forest is a constant source of creative inspiration and delight for me.”
Lynette first stepped into the art world during a difficult period of her early life.
“To get me through a tough period of my young married life, I became a potter. Once in the artistic world, no end of possibilities opened up for me, and I have since experimented in many other crafts. This culminated in me becoming an eco-printer, and I have followed and been taught by the Irish artist Nicola Browne from her beginnings as an online tutor.”
These days, she’s exploring gentler forms of creativity to honour her physical needs, but her passion remains as strong as ever.
“Now I need less physically strenuous pursuits, particularly as I want to continue to live independently, and do not want to become a burden to my children! So ‘keep busy and occupied’ (as I am 21 in my head), but cut my cloth to match a body that just won’t keep up!”
Lynette found Fibre Arts Take Two through her love of learning.
“At 92 and my iPad is my lifeline. I read all the offerings and discussions of ‘Fibre Arts Take Two’ and marvel at the skills on offer. I have dabbled in crafts all my life and am still an ecoprinter — spirit willing!”

When Lissa Hunter’s course was released, it sparked something for her.
“When I read about Lissa’s course, it looked possible for me, being sedentary, my physical energy is waning but my brain still buzzing.”
The learning experience, Lynette says, has been nothing short of joyful:
“The live videos have been a joy. Both Lissa and your interviewing staff are so sensitive, thoughtful and generous. And take it at such a gentle pace.”
She also finds a special kind of inspiration in the community itself.
“I enjoy our private Facebook group where I am inspired by other students’ work. Clever, quirky and fun and such inspiration beyond Lissa’s refined and polished work.”
Lynette wants others to know that art isn’t just for the young or the energetic — it’s for anyone with curiosity and the willingness to try.
“I hope other ‘Oldies’ who have time on their hands (if not so much strength!) and less responsibilities at this time of life, will consider joining us all here. There is so much to gain, and no pressure at all.”
“If you can’t keep up, you go at your own pace – or you don’t! Simply enjoy it to your own strengths, and if you just watch and enjoy, then that’s OK, and in this online world no one will even know!”
And finally, Lynette shares…
“I am so glad and proud that I pressed that button and have had this wonderful experience and I do highly suggest others like me, do so.”
Lynette, thank you for pressing that button and for sharing your story with us. You remind us all that there’s no age limit on creativity, inspiration, or learning.
