Let’s cause a stir

Wall of Spoons

These spoons are the result of a creative challenge set by Lissa Hunter in our online course Finding. Interpreting “spoon” as an object with a bowl and handle, students were free to creatively explore any size, material, or quantity.
We hope you enjoy this beautiful collection of student work, inspired by Lissa's 2023 show at Cove Street Arts.

Art is an effect—it happens in the space between a piece and the viewer. It doesn’t need to be about meaning or themes. If someone responds to it deeply, it can be art.

I think art is allowing someone else to have a little entry into your world.

There is just as much variety of artists as human beings. As dentists. As schoolteachers. Or anything else. So there is a place for you. And I hope you find it. Sometimes you have to make it. You have to create it yourself.

Anybody who says he or she knows what art is is delusional. Art is one of those slippery terms, like beauty and love, that are so dependent upon the situation and people involved.

There’s craft in art, and art in craft.

Finding is about rolling up your sleeves and honouring that connection. Through thoughtful exploration and guided practical techniques, you’ll learn to bridge inspiration and execution and figure out the practical day-to-day framework that will help you create meaningful mixed media fibre art and succeed as an artist.
