Develop your creative voice through wabi-sabi collage.
What Donna's students say:
This course will help you to discover your artistic voice within and the content will enable you to experiment with new techniques and tools for making collages.
I was working mostly from my intuition in the past. Donna's thoughts about 'Intuition vs. Intension' set me off on a conscious path where intuition starts from a more thoughtful place.
Before this class I stumbled around trying all kinds of approaches to collage but achieved nothing coherent. Now I feel that I have the building blocks for a considered and meaningful practice that suits my personal aesthetic.
This course helped me to hone this and pushed me to focus on more meaning and intention in my work. This was a breakthrough for me and has ignited more purpose in my pieces. Also, in life I have made the practice of embracing wabi sabi more prevalent in setting intentions.
I have a clearer picture of the path I am on and the direction I am heading, rather than feeling lost and going round and round in circles.
Turn your collage practice into a mindful act of self-inquiry and self-expression.
What is wabi-sabi?
Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy, aesthetic, and way of seeing the world. Wabi speaks to a life of quiet simplicity and connection to the natural world, while Sabi reflects the passage of time and the way things become more meaningful as they age. Together, these two yin and yang forces embody the art of finding harmony in the worn, the weathered, and the beautifully broken.
A different way to learn - grounded in meaning, process, and personal expression.
Build compositional confidence
Stop second-guessing.
Find and trust your own voice.
As an artist, you don’t need to work in someone else’s voice - and with Donna Watson, you won’t.
This course is not for those artists that just are looking for the easy way, the recipe. I provide as many techniques and tools as I can, so then you are ready to start creating your own collages in your voice.
- Donna Watson
Guided by award-winning mixed media collage artist and teacher Donna Watson, The Way of Wabi Sabi Collage takes you on a visual journey from Donna’s artist’s studio in the United States, to the heart of Japan. Drawing on her Japanese heritage, Donna teaches wabi-sabi philosophy, poetic composition, and the art of paper selection. You'll learn to curate, layer, and distress materials with intention and create collages that feel meaningful and deeply connected to who you are.
