Form to Freedom - Student Exhibition 2025
“Gathered Strands” celebrates the beginnings of each student stepping into a practice of woven art. We gather fibres from the plants around us, but we also gather each other—forming a community that grows stronger, thread by thread.
Working alone at home with a new practice can feel quite daunting. Doubt sets in before we can finish a work. Yet together, we’re braver than we are on our own. Within the Form to Freedom community, the sparks of intuition, the courage to begin again, and the quiet encouragement between learners and seasoned makers alike build a shared confidence. Bit by bit, we learn to trust our colours, our shapes, our fibres—and ultimately ourselves.
Those moments of clarity that artists rely on emerge only when we slip into the flow of making. The meditative rhythm of this work softens the mind and lets intuition breathe. Each piece in these pages captures a single moment when someone set aside self-doubt, listened to encouragement, and allowed their inner voice to say, “This, too, is worthy.”
I am deeply humbled to be part of the journey of everyone whose work appears here and excited to see the creative paths that begin with these gathered strands.
With love and congratulations,
Harriet
